How to Build Confidence and Self Esteem at Workplace

According to a news report published in the Los Angeles Times on September 11, 2012, Sara Gilbert, Julie Chen, Aisha Tyler, Sheryl Underwood and Sharon Osborne hosted the popular talk show, The Talk, completely devoid of make up and wearing only robes and towels! Being able to do so is a sign of self confidence and self esteem. However, there are many of us who feel under-confident or lack self esteem when it comes to one’s professional life. This not only impacts your relationships at work but also your image and your performance. Let us take a look at some useful tips to help boost your self-esteem and confidence.

1.      Make a List

Make a list of the goals that you wish to achieve in the long term and the steps to achieving these goals. Once your goals are broken up into smaller achievable steps, focus on your capabilities. Include these abilities against the list of steps to achieving your goals. After this, start actively fulfilling one step at a time. With each step that you progress, you will notice your sense of self worth and confidence rising.

2.      Be Prepared

Being prepared for a job or a task, makes you feel more confident about it. This may include doing some extra work. However, once you are prepared for a presentation or a meeting, you tend to gain self-confidence. Slowly, you can streamline extra work like this and gain competency towards achieving your targets without putting in extra effort.

3.      Take out Your Own Time

Most of us have a hectic schedule that doesn’t allow us to take out some time for ourselves. However, time for yourself and your loved ones is an essential part of life. So, each week, actively schedule time for yourself, even if it is getting a new hairdo or a massage or taking up a hobby. This will rejuvenate your mind and body and will boost your confidence and self-esteem.

4.      Buy a Self-Help Guide

There are various self-help books available in the market. Make sure you pick one that is written by a renowned psychiatrist or life coach, since they will have the most helpful information to share. These books have the power to bring about a positive change in the way you think about yourself and provide you useful tips on gaining self-confidence.
